China Eastern Airlines Corp. Ltd. and EADS EFW have signed a contract for the conversion of three A300-600 passenger aircraft, formerly operated by the Chinese airline itself, to freighters.
The first A300-600 is expected to enter EADS EFWs Dresden facility for conversion in December 2006. The other two conversions will take place during 2007.
“We are delighted that China Eastern Airlines, our first customer in China, has chosen the increasingly popular A300 wide-body freighter to meet the ever-growing airfreight demands. I know that China Eastern Airlines will take full advantage of the converted Airbus freighters` great potential,” said Horst Emker, President and CEO of EADS EFW.
As of today, EADS has delivered a total of 122 converted freighter aircraft to over 20 customers worldwide. EFW, headquartered in Dresden, Germany, is the centre of competence for Airbus passenger to freighter conversion within EADS.
