EADS is assisting the German Armed Forces in its deployment of German soldiers abroad by providing protected containers for medical treatment. As the company announced on Friday, EADS Defence Electronics had been given an order for the delivery of 30 protected rescue stations by the Federal Office of Defence Technology and Procurement BWB. The rescue stations are housed in standardised 20-foot containers and ensure initial medical treatment and emergency care of the highest medical and hygienic level.

With its mobile water and power supply, the air-conditioned rescue stations can be operated completely autonomously for a period of up to three days. The systems just ordered will be particularly well protected against ballistic fire. To increase mobility, the rescues stations will be operated in transport position on the relevant transport vehicle or trailer. Attached ascending ramps ensure easy access even when using a stretcher. This means there is no need for the container to be loaded and unloaded with lifting equipment, which would also have to be transported.

“The protected rescue stations make it possible for German soldiers to provide immediate medical assistance in the direct vicinity of operational activities,” said Bernhard Gerwert, Head of EADS Defence Electronics. “The units are now much more mobile, easier to transport and in addition offer protection against ballistic fire.”

The overall medical system which is known as “TransHospital” is deployed in various configurations and extension stages by the armed forces of Germany, Singapore, Spain, Slovenia and the United Arab Emirates. The German Armed Forces also operate EADS field hospitals during their missions in Afghanistan and in the Balkans.

The EADS Business Unit Defence Electronics is part of the EADS Defence & Security Systems Division (DS) which is a system solutions provider. DS combines military air systems, missile systems, communications and intelligence systems, global security solutions as well as sensor and avionics systems into a single effective network. With 2005 revenues of € 5.6 billion, the Division employs 23,000.

EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2005, EADS generated revenues of € 34.2 billion and employed a workforce of about 113,000.
