Ulysses

For over 17 years, the European spacecraft Ulysses explored the Sun and its influence on the Earth. It was the first spacecraft ever to fly across the two poles of our central star, and represents a milestone in the study of the Sun and its influence on the Earth. Ulysses far exceeded its nominal service life of five years.
