The French Italian consortium ATR and the Medellin based airline ACES COLOMBIA today announce the signature of a contract for two new generation ATR 42-500s. The first aircraft will be delivered in December 2000 followed by the second aircraft in April 2001.
With this new order ACES COLOMBIA will operate a fleet of 6 new generation ATR 42-500s and 4 ATR 42-320s. ACES COLOMBIA was founded in 1972 as a regional airline. Today ACES COLOMBIA is the country's second largest airline serving a total of 37 destinations. ACES COLOMBIA is also the biggest ATR operator in South America.
ACES COLOMBIA covers a large part of the Colombian regional network with daily flights to e.g. Bogotà, Medellin, Cali, Pereira, Manizales, Amenia as well as six international destinations (Miami, Santo Domingo, Punta Cana, San Juan, Lima and Quito).
Antoine Bouvier, ATR Chief Executive Officer, added that he was "delighted at the mark of confidence in our products and our organisation. The outstanding performances of the ATR 42-500, particularly in hot and high conditions, was key to ACES' decision. It is clear that the new generation ATR 500 Series appeal to the airlines because of their comfort, cabin quietness, their reliability and their cost efficiency."
The new generation -500 series (ATR 42-500 and ATR 72-500), powered by Pratt and Whitney Canada 127 engines, is equipped with new Hamilton Sundstrand/ Ratier Figeac 568F six-blade propellers of reduced diameter featuring low noise and vibration transmission to the passenger cabin. A four abreast cabin, increased carry-on volume, easy and quick passenger boarding, low fuel consumption and high cruise speed make the 500 series an effective economic tool for regional air transport.
Since the beginning of the programme ATR has sold 631 (365 ATR 42s and 266 ATR 72s to 103 operators in more than 65 countries.
