EADS main partner of the European Youth Parliament

Paris, 13 March 2006

EADS is the main partner of the 51st International Session of the European Youth Parliament which will take place in Paris from the 23rd of March to the 2nd of April. The event, organized this year by Parlement Européen des Jeunes (PEJ) France, will gather together 350 young people (16 to 25 years) coming from the member countries or from the accession countries of the European Union.

During ten days, they will meet to learn more about other cultures and to work out resolutions to different genuine topics that are linked to the European constitution. EADS, the premier example of an integrated European company and the leading European group in its area of business, has decided to support this initiative focused on Europe and its youth.

Noël Forgeard, CEO of EADS, declared: “It seems natural for me that EADS is the main partner of this international session. The youth parliament is an approach which suits directly with the culture of EADS: initiative, innovation, implication and multiculturalism. These young people are our driving force, they will shape the social and industrial framework of Europe’s future. They will form the teams which will be the source of our future success.”

Vincent Couronne, President of PEJ France, declared: "The choice of EADS as main partner of the EYP is self-evident, especially at this time of history when European needs strong symbols. The example of a successful company based on combining European know-how, illustrates the message that we would like to pass on at the session in Paris: together young people can put forward their propositions, and acquire tools which will enable them to assert their own European vision.”

EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2005, EADS generated revenues of € 34.2 billion and employed a workforce of about 113,000. The EADS Group includes the aircraft manufacturer Airbus, the world's largest helicopter supplier Eurocopter and the joint venture MBDA, the international leader in missile systems. EADS is the major partner in the Eurofighter consortium, is the prime contractor for the Ariane launcher, develops the A400M military transport aircraft and is the largest industrial partner for the European satellite navigation system Galileo.

PEJ France, created in 1987, is an independent, educational, non-profit, apolitical association. The main objective of PEJ is to promote the European dimension within the education by informing about and interesting the young people in the European constitution, particularly by organizing parliamentary sessions, but also other various activities in France and in Europe. Amongst others, it organized the important literature competition “Raconte ton Europe” and the flying the the European flag at all French high schools on May 1st 2004, the day of the European enlargement.
