EADS is mourning the death of Dietrich Russell. The former Head of EADS' Aeronautics Division died yesterday at the age of 64. During his long and distinguished career Russell played a major role in the integration of the European aerospace and defence industry.
The CEOs of EADS, Tom Enders and Noël Forgeard, expressed their appreciation of Dietrich Russell's contribution to the success of EADS and its predecessor companies: "Dietrich Russell was deeply involved in and one of the main drivers of our industry's integration across Europe, especially in the development of EADS. Under his leadership the Aeronautics Division contributed significantly to our business success. His accomplishments have been outstanding and we are indebted for all he has achieved for EADS. He will always be remembered in the fondest terms.“
Prior to his tenure at EADS, Dietrich Russell was Chief Operating Officer of Airbus from 1998 to 2000. He had joined Daimler-Benz Aerospace AG (Dasa) in 1995 as the Member of the Board of Management responsible for Aeronautics. He came from the Mannesmann Group, where he started his career in 1972 and was first appointed a Member of the Board of Mannesmann Anlagenbau AG in 1984.
