Arianespace orders 35 more Ariane 5 launchers from AstriumToday at the Paris Air Show, Jean-Yves Le Gall, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Arianespace, and François Auque, Chairman of Astrium, signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning the production of 35 Ariane 5 launchers, in addition to the batch of 30 Ariane 5 launchers ordered in 2004. The signing ceremony was attended by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, along with Jean-Jacques Dordain, Director General of the European Space Agency and Yannick d’Escatha, President of French CNES space agency. This order defines the contractual framework for the upcoming order for 35 Ariane 5 ECAs, the most powerful version of this heavy-lift launcher. It allows the procurement of long lead-time items to begin now, in order to ensure launcher continuity in 2010. About Astrium
