A new generation of multi-purpose insensitive bombs The BANG (new-generation navy aviation bombs/Bombe Aéronavale de Nouvelle Génération) family is a new generation of multipurpose insensitive bombs, which significantly extends the operational efficiency of air strikes, in particular when fitted with guidance kits (laser, INS/GPS).
There are two different classes, (BANG 125 kg and BANG 250 kg) which are fully interchangeable with Mk 81 and Mk 82 bombs, ordered by the Frech Official Services.
BANG has been in service since 2000 with the Frenc Navy on board the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle
Low cost range expansion wing kit Demand for systems capable of extending the range and manoeuvrability of certain guided bombs has increased over the years. Yet military budgets need this requirement to be met at the lowest possible cost.
For this mission, MBDA has developed an original technical solution: a low cost, high performance footprint expansion wing kit, designed to be compatible with low cost GPS-guided weapons including: Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) and Small Diameter Bomb (SDB).
In July 2001, MBDA and Boeing signed a teaming agreement for world-wide sales of the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) family of weapons and its derivatives, such as the extended range variant (JDAM-ER). The teaming agreement also includes the US Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) programme, for wich Boeing has been selected for the next 2-year system development and demonstration (SDD) phase. Both JDAM-ER and the Boeing SDB solution use the MBDA Diamond Back wing kit to achieve range extension.
Under the sponsorship of the USAF, MBDA and Boeing have successfully demonstrated extended range for JDAM and SSBREX, with 7 DIAMOND BACK® wing kit flight tests completed between April and December 2000. Weapon releases were from a USAF F-16 at Eglin AFB, Florida and White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. Two weapon types were used (2000lb JDAM ER and 250 lb SSBREX) proving that the wing kit is scalable across a range of payloads.
Flight test objectives were met by demonstration of safe separation, wing deployment, controlled cruise flight, down range and cross track performance and terminal end game that resulted in hitting the target area as planned. DIAMOND BACK® increases the weapon footprint by up to 5 times (dependent on release altitude) whilst retaining the terminal accuracy of the JDAM or SDB munition.
DIAMOND BACK® has been selected for SDB and enters service with the USAF in 2006.
A family of highly accurate, modular, air-to-surface precision guided stand-off weapons The PGM system family has been in service for more than 5 years.
Conventionally armed stand off air-to-ground long range missile Selected by 5 countries, STORM SHADOW / SCALP is a long range, conventionally armed, cruise missile, optimised for use in pre-planned attacks against heavily defended, hardened and high value fixed targets whose positions are accurately known before the mission. Operating by day and night and in adverse weather, STORM SHADOW / SCALP offers considerable operational capability and provides a large launch window with minimal Fire and Forget workload.
STORM SHADOW / SCALP is a stealth missile and is fully autonomous after firing.
2003 and saw operational service in the Gulf during action in Iraq. STORM SHADOW / SCALP will be operated from Tornado, Rafale, Mirage 2000, Mirage 2000-5 Mk II, Eurofighter Typhoonand in the future, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
New MBDA advanced studies are underway to develop a sea-launched version of the SCALP missile. Dedicated to equip the future frigates and “Barracuda-class” sub-marines of the French Navy, the “SCALP NAVAL” will fulfil other European requirements for deep land attack from the sea.
The modular stand-off missile for precision strike The TAURUS KEPD 350 is a modular stand-off missile system for precision strikes against strongly hardened and high-value point and area targets. TAURUS KEPD 350 is designed to penetrate dense air defences in very low level terrain - following flight and neutralise high value stationary and semi-stationary targets – with its highly effective dual stage warhead system MEPHISTO. It combines excellent penetration capabilities for hard and deep buried targets (HDBT) as well as blast and fragmentation capabilities against high-value point and aerial targets.
TAURUS KEPD 350 is deployed on the German Air Force Tornado IDS aircraft. A procurement contract has been signed by the Spanish Air Force for this missile to equip their EF-18 aircraft. The integration on Eurofighter is planned by both countries. TAURUS KEPD 350 is a product of TAURUS Systems GmbH, a joint venture between LFK-Lenkflugkoerpersysteme GmbH and Saab Bofors Dynamics AB for the development, production and global marketing of the TAURUS stand-off missile family for precision strike.
The modular stand-off missile for precision strike The Taurus high precision stand-off missile family is based on Taurus KEPD 350. Great stand-off range, high precision and cost effectiveness with unmatched penetration capability against a variety of targets are the key features of this weapon system.
The Taurus family concept enables the cost effective adaptation of the system capabilities to emerging requirements simply by exchanging or adding single subsystems or components, thus producing to logistical and operational efficiency.
The modular architecture eases adaptations of the system capabilities towards new requirements, e.g. implementation of a datalink, a multiple warhead system or non lethal effectors like High Power Microwave effectors.
