Major success in the United States:
TDA to supply weapon system for US Marine Corps’ Expeditionary Fire Support System

Munich, 25  November  2004

As partner in an international consortium TDA Armaments SAS, a subsidiary of EADS and Thales, has won an important contract on the US market. The consortium led by General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS) has been selected by the US Marine Corps to develop and produce the future Expeditionary Fire Support System (EFSS).

The contract is worth about 300 million dollars (240 million euros). TDA’s share of this six-year programme will amount to around 80 million euros if all options are exercised. This order gives proof of the long lasting and successful cooperation of EADS and Thales within the scope of their subsidiary TDA.

TDA will supply the EFSS weapon system, comprising its 120 mm rifled towed mortar, the 120 RT, already in service with the armed forces of twenty-four countries, including four NATO members, and the associated family of ammunition. The Marine Corps’ selection of the TDA mortar confirms the competitive capability of TDA’s products.

TDA is an equally owned subsidiary of EADS and Thales and is organisationally assigned to the EADS Defence and Security Systems Division (DS). With revenues of approx. € 5.2 bn in 2003 and roughly 24,000 employees across nine nations, DS forms the defence pole within EADS. It offers integrated systems solutions to the new challenges confronting armed forces and homeland security units. It is active in the areas of military aircraft, missile systems, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) systems with manned and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), battlefield management systems, defence electronics, sensors and avionics, and related services.

EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2003, the Group generated revenues of € 30 billion and employed a workforce of more than 109,000.
