Airbus is a major employer with a workforce of over 13,000 on its two sites at Filton (Bristol) and Broughton (North Wales). Airbus UK is principally responsible for landing gear, fuel systems and wing design, wing manufacture, assembly and equipping.
The most recent Airbus projects such as the A400M military transport aircraft and the A380, our largest plane yet, are making intensive use of the specialist technical expertise found in the UK.
The contribution of Airbus to the UK economy is significant. It contributes over £1 billion per annum to the UK’s trade and sustains around 135,000 through wing work in the UK.
The majority of UK-based airlines have Airbus fleets, including British Airways, British Midland, easyJet, MyTravel Airways and Monarch. Virgin Atlantic Airways was also one of the first customers for the A380, with an order for six aircraft.
