EADS Astrium in the UK employs over 2,200 people at its sites at Stevenage, Portsmouth and Poynton. It designs and manufactures some of the world's largest and most sophisticated civil and military communications satellites, their payloads and associated ground terminals, and offers specialist expertise in observation and scientific exploration satellite platforms and instruments, satellite navigation payloads and spacecraft electronics.
Key activities in the UK include prime contractorship of the Skynet 5 military communications satellite system for the UK MoD, the European Space Agency spacecraft programmes Lisa Pathfinder and Aeolus, and a wide range of military communications ground terminals.
