Paradigm is the world’s first commercial provider of military satellite communications and the only provider of end-to-end, hardened and protected satellite services, using X-band and UHF frequencies compliant to NATO standards. Paradigm employees are based in Stevenage, Corsham, Oakhanger and Colerne.
Paradigm owns, manages and operates the UK milsatcom Skynet system and is responsible for all aspects of service delivery, satellite control and network management, including all network upgrades throughout its life. Paradigm operates the latest state of the art military X-band satellites and an extensive ground infrastructure from the UK, and the service management takes place at Hawthorn, Wiltshire.
The Skynet 5 system will comprise the three most powerful X-band satellites in orbit. The satellites will meet long haul communications needs for the UK MoD and Paradigm’s other customers. The first satellite Skynet 5A was launched in March 2007 with Skynet 5B due to launch in the second half of 2007 and Skynet 5C in 2008.
In addition to complete X-band packages, Paradigm is able to offer capacity, coverage augmentation, anchoring and backhaul services, as well as terminal leasing.
From the outset, Paradigm planned for the Skynet 5 system to be far more capable and larger than that required to meet the UK MoD requirements. Paradigm is, therefore, able to offer services to other militaries and government organisations and has supplied milsatcom services to NATO, the Netherlands, Portugal, Canada, France and Germany.
