Series production of the missile warning system is running.
Paris/Munich, 01 June 2001
The Japanese SH-60 and SH-60 J/K helicopters and the Taiwanese CH-47 helicopters will be equipped with MILDS® AN/AAR-60. Contracts between both countries and the German LFK-Lenkflugkörpersysteme GmbH (LFK, Munich), a subsidiary of the EADS European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company, have been signed. At the end of 2000 also Italy decided to procure the missile warning system for its helicopters A 109, A 129, AB 121, CH-47 and CH-3D. This was announced by LFK during the Aerosalon Le Bourget 2001 (16 to 24 June 2001).
The company also benefits from the series production of the first batch of 298 NH90 helicopters for the German Air Force. The TTH (Hélicoptère de Transport Tactique) version of the NH90 will - as the Franco-German Tiger support helicopter before it - be equipped with an electronic warfare self-protection system which, in addition to a radar warning system, a laser warning sensor and the chaff/flare dispenser, also comprises the LFK-developed missile warning system MILDS® AN/AAR-60. 80 such systems are under contract for Tiger, 134 are planned for the German requirements for the NH90 TTH.
MILDS® AN/AAR-60 sensors from a long series production run will thus be available to further programmes which are still awaiting a decision.
MILDS® AN/AAR-60 is to become part of an electronic warfare system for the Nordic Helicopter Programme, in which Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland are participating. MILDS® AN/AAR 60 is also seen to be the best candidate for the Spanish Cougar. Spain also intends to equip its CN-295 transport aircraft with a missile warning system. Furthermore, in the near future, the next order for equipment of the 80 French Tiger helicopters is to be expected.
