EADS and BWB present new Air Drop Systems at ILA 2002Berlin, 06 May 2002 The Military Aircraft business unit of EADS European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company and the German Office of Defence Technology and Procurement (BWB) present new Airdrop Systems at this year's Internationale Luftfahrtausstellung (ILA). At the BWB stand and in the flying program on the weekend a new Navigation Unit for Paratroopers and the Autonomous Ram-Air Cargo Parachute System will be presented to the public for the first time. New Generation Airdrop Systems enable personnel and cargo to be dropped from high altitude at around 10,000 metres and over long distances, thus reducing the air defence threat to releasing aircraft and the ability to detect paratroopers or dropped cargo. The Navigation Unit for Paratroopers consisting of a Mission Planning Unit together with satellite-based precision navigation make pin-point long-range missions possible, over 50 km at night and adverse weather. With the Autonomous Ram-Air Cargo Parachute loads up to 6,000 kg can be dropped with pin-point accuracy. The system builds on the components for the Navigation Unit for Paratroopers such as the Mission Planning Unit. The advantages of these new systems are clear
