EADS TELECOM presents its airport solutions

Paris, 13 June 2003

EADS TELECOM, provider of turnkey communication networks, will be present on the EADS stand at the 45th Paris Air Show to present its secure radio communications solutions for airports. During the event, EADS TELECOM will be organising simulations dedicated to event management, incident and vehicle location and Police applications.

EADS TELECOM digitises airport communications

With airport communications systems now being gradually replaced, the market, which has traditionally been an analogical one, is on the brink of a "digital revolution". This development is a strategic priority for EADS TELECOM, whose airport business is in full synergy with the strategy of the EADS group: security systems integration, telecommunications networks and vulnerability studies.

EADS TELECOM now has a large number of customer references, including such airports as Berlin, Brussels, Frankfurt, Geneva, Hanover and Zurich.

Communications interoperability for all airport services, thanks to TETRAPOL technology

In the current context of heightened airport security, digital solutions provide a more efficient response than analogical networks. To enable the various airport and security services to communicate by radio using a shared network, EADS TELECOM provides airport and airline telecoms departments with secure shared-resources digital radio solutions based on TETRAPOL technology.

On its stand, EADS TELECOM will present its specific airport solutions:

  • Secure networks providing protection for the entire IT and Voice-Data telecommunications system
  • Vulnerability studies ensuring failsafe information system security and confidentiality of IT flows
  • Security auditing of information systems, using the Castor software, which can simulate intrusions in modelled systems
  • "Object Call", a solution which makes it possible to contact all of the personnel concerned by a given flight (luggage management, catering, maintenance, ground control, etc.), simply by dialling the corresponding flight number

The solutions developed by EADS TELECOM ensure rapid, reliable information transfer, availability of communications and coordination of operations on the ground, as well as enabling sequences of events to be retraced. All of these solutions are fully upgradeable, and can thus be adapted to meet the specific needs of any airport.

Specific uses for all areas of expertise

In order to present these applications in a context which accurately reflects actual airport needs, EADS TELECOM will be organising a number of simulations on its stand, using TETRAPOL terminals and Tablet PCs:

  • Event management, such as an emergency services operation, a luggage theft or, simply, a flight arrival. The aim of the simulation is to show how resources are allocated to these incidents and how the information received on the Tablet PCs may be used. Uses can include locating an incident or determining its type, or consulting information sources such as passenger lists or lists of spare parts in stock.
  • Location, on the server, of incidents and vehicles, to ensure enhanced coordination of the various teams concerned: fire-fighters, air-traffic controllers, ground services, technical support, Police, Customs, etc. >
  • Fire-fighter dedicated applications: using the image of a human body on their Tablet PCs, emergency medical teams can perform an initial diagnosis which will be transmitted directly to the hospitals concerned. A scanner can also be connected to the Tablet PC in order to transmit the patient’s electrocardiogram.
  • Police dedicated applications: the ability to scan fingerprints directly on the Tablet PC and compare them, via TETRAPOL, with a database on a server, will enable greater numbers of ID checks to be performed among both airport staff and travellers.
  • Independent portable relays will make it possible to communicate on a specific incident without overloading the airport’s network.

Furthermore, EADS TELECOM will be presenting its entire range of TETRAPOL terminals:

  • The "Smart" digital voice-data model, used, notably, by Public Safety and Emergency services
  • The I-safe, which is used in "explosive" contexts
  • The RMT (Robust Mobile Terminal), a TETRAPOL terminal with a touch screen which is used on airport vehicles.

EADS TELECOM benefits from the expertise in the fixed and wireless digital telecommunication fields in IP environments, using proven civil technologies, as well as security on information systems. Thanks to the TETRAPOL technology EADS TELECOM is the world leader in the field of secure digital radio networks, with 70 networks in 31 countries, including 15 networks with national coverage.
