EADS will equip the German Armed Forces’ new Fennek scout vehicle with advanced short-wave radio facilities for data and voice communication. As reported by the company on Wednesday, EADS Radio Communication Systems GmbG & Co. KG (RACOMS), Ulm/Germany, a subsidiary of EADS, has been awarded with the supply of tactical radio systems by the IT office of the German Armed Forces. These orders with a total volume of more than 15 million euros also cover the equipment of the German special reaction forces with tactical radio equipment of the HRM 7000 product families (HRM = High-frequency Radio Mobile).

“To RACOMS, these orders signify an expansion of the market segment of military communication”, states Dieter Scharr, head of RACOMS.

The short-wave HRM 7000 radio system is in a position to bridge large distances and to automatically establish the connection. In doing so, the system considers the radio propagation prediction for the respective time of the day and year and can quickly ensure the operational readiness for data and voice transmission in military units.

RACOMS offers a broad spectrum of automated HF radio communication systems for data and voice transmission. Furthermore, the company offers radio system solutions in the millimetre-wave range for wireless communication in command posts and the reliable transmission of operating data of the Tranrapid Maglev system.

With revenues of € 29.9 billion in 2002 and more than 100,000 employees, EADS is the second largest aerospace and defence company in the world. As a systems integrator, EADS is one of the few companies world-wide capable of combining various products and technologies to form complete systems and offering the associated services. The EADS Group includes the aircraft manufacturer Airbus, the world’s largest helicopter supplier Eurocopter and the joint venture MBDA, the second largest missile producer in the world.
