Upturn of Airbus freighter conversion programmes

Dresden / Farnborough, 20 July 2004

The Airbus freighter conversion programmes continue their path of success. On the occasion of Farnborough International Airshow, EFW (Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH) revealed further contracts with different yet undisclosed customers, resulting in a backlog of 20 Airbus freighter conversions. EFW’s President and CEO, Horst Emker, said: “After a period of downturn, the market starts moving into the right direction. Next year, our hangar for Airbus freighter conversions will again be filled close to maximum current capacity”. EFW expects to deliver at least 13 converted aircraft in 2005.

As of today, EADS has delivered a total of 105 converted freighter aircraft to 18 customers worldwide, 46 A310-200, 34 A300B4, 14 A310-300 and 11 A300-600. All aircraft have been converted under OEM-rules (Original Equipment Manufacturer), using a maximum number of common parts from the corresponding Airbus freighter production.

EFW, headquartered in Dresden, Germany, is the centre for Airbus passenger to freighter conversion within EADS. EFW is also the centre of excellence for the production of fibre-reinforced sandwich components for the entire family of Airbus, including production and conversion freighter.
