Biggest Asian helicopter operator goes for Eurocopter

Contract for two AS365 N3 Dauphin helicopters signed in New Delhi for off-shore operator PAWAN HANS – two additional options

Marignane, 16  December  2005

On December 5th Mr. Nagar Shridar, Chairman and Managing Director of Indian offshore helicopter operator PAWAN HANS, and Rainer Farid, Regional Sales Director of Eurocopter, signed a contract for the delivery of two helicopters AS 365 N3 and two more options in New Delhi, India.

Being the biggest civil helicopter operator throughout India and Asia, PAWAN HANS will further enlarge its fleet of modern, safe and especially comfortable off-shore helicopters with the planned delivery in May 2006. The company’s headquarter is based in New Delhi and PAWAN HANS has several helicopter bases all over the sub-continent. The company is currently operating a fleet of 21 Dauphin helicopters (17 N versions and 4 N3 versions) and had received its first Eurocopter AS 365 as early as in April 1983.

Proven reliability and operability

For several years, Eurocopter’s internationally renowned Dauphin helicopter series has been a synonym for flexibility, performance and most modern avionics in the four metric ton class. Eurocopter's high-performance, twin-engine version of the proven Dauphin family, named AS 365 N3, meets the most stringent safety requirements for OEI (One Engine Inoperative) operation. With its capability to perform its missions in the most severe climatic conditions and by its large power margin this highly versatile helicopter is optimally suited for off-shore mission, offering space for up to 11 passengers. The AS 365 Dauphin N3 was certified in October 1997 and the first helicopter was delivered in December of the same year. Customers meanwhile include: the ship pilots of the Port of Amsterdam and Rotterdam, various offshore operators such as Norwegian Helicopter Transport Group HTG, the police forces of the State of Maryland, of Japan, etc.

Highest safety standards

The AS 365 N3 Dauphin is powered by two Turbomeca ARRIEL 2C gas turbines fitted with a Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) unit, ensuring efficiency and safety in any phase of operation. The engines develop a maximum 30-second contingency power of 977 shp. Due to its power, the AS 365 N3 Dauphin is one of the very few helicopters in the world capable of heliborne operations while hovering with one engine out. Thanks to its ARRIEL 2C engines, it can take off out of the ground effect at maximum weight and at +50°Celcius. The helicopter is also capable of taking off at +40°C with a full load in Category A conditions at sea level.
