EADS Secure Network (SN) is part of the Business Unit Defence and Communication Systems (DCS).
DCS is the EADS "Systems House", offering its customers comprehensive and tailored solutions that combine the know-how to design, develop and implement Large System Integration (LSI) solutions making it possible to link the widest possible range of individual platforms and subsystems into a single effective network. DCS provides the full range of capabilities and experience in military systems and secure communications networks.
EADS is represented at the TETRA World Congress for the first time, due to the acquisition of Nokia’s Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) activities. At one of the most important communication- and information platforms for Professional Mobile Radio EADS presents its new products and features, which are shown at TWC for the first time, on their booth D4.
All PMR activities within EADS have been grouped together to form the new founded line of business EADS Secure Networks. The launch of EADS Secure Networks marks a new era in the European PMR industry. Through its ability to offer global security and mission critical solutions, EADS Systems House DCS has firmly established itself as a competitive global player in the market.
EADS is the only company in the world that can offer highly secure, digital radio communication systems and terminals based on the two leading digital radio standards, TETRA and TETRAPOL.
For the security of all
For its customers worldwide, EADS develops, installs and maintains technology platforms for professional mobile radio, together with a wide range of advanced terminals. Its multi-standard portfolio includes network solutions, radio terminals, dispatching and network management positions, cipher key management, interfaces with numerous external entities (data networks, control rooms, public switched telephone networks, cellular networks, legacy PMR) and projectable tactical equipment. And thanks to its experience in Large System Integration projects, EADS can tailor-make totally integrated, cost-efficient turnkey solutions to meet even the most specialized requirements.
Preparing for the unpredictable
To achieve outstanding results for its customers, EADS relies on close, ongoing collaboration with professionals all over the world:
Listening closely to those who depend on reliable mission-critical solutions - day in, day out
Exchanging opinions, experiences and ideas
Developing new solutions, testing them in rigid conditions, then fine-tuning them
Working together with one clear objective: the further enhancement of safety and security.
EADS is aiming to offer complete end-to-end solutions to cater for the needs of any organisation needing PMR. This is something new in the marketplace. EADS is number one in Europe and second in the world for PMR. Any customer, whether from the public safety sector or the commercial world, and whether it needs a small regional network or a major nationwide system, can find a complete PMR solution using whichever standard best suits their needs. This is the main difference between EADS and their competitors.
EADS has more than 130 PMR customers in 56 countries and 30 nationwide networks.
The choice of which technology is best for a specific network is governed by many different influences. Security needs, the geography of the country, support demands, applications required, and many more influences make it a complex decision.
EADS will not discard current systems, due to the bright future for both technologies. Their sales are balanced between the technologies and so both of them will be developed further.
To aid the technologies’ development, EADS Secure Networks aims to maintain a strong contribution to standards-making. EADS sees a convergence of the technologies as they evolve and new applications are developed. For example, data is currently a hot topic and new standards may appear in the future.
EADS Secure Networks is also eyeing up the North American market and has already established a presence in the USA, due to the fact that there is a real need for digital PMR solutions such as the European. The PMR technologies offer tremendous benefits through their well-developed interoperability. With top US company partnerships, EADS wants to step in the North American market.
The global market is estimated to grow from today’s 4 to 5 billion Euros, to as much as 10 billion Euros in 5 to 7 years. EADS Secure Networks is continuing to push for new business around the world. One major project ongoing in Europe is BOSNET in Germany.
PMR is the cornerstone of the EADS public safety offer, which carries a wide breadth of products and services for safety and security customers. Being able to offer the best PMR solution is one of the main bricks of the EADS safety and security offer. Communications is a key element. Most of their customers are in the public sector field and have wide-ranging security needs that EADS can fulfil, such as surveillance and security applications. The company has entered a new era and it seems as though its one that will offer buyers more choice than ever.
