CFO Hans Peter Ring: “Attractiveness and recognition of EADS by investors in the German financial market to be further enhanced”

EADS (stock exchange symbol: EAD) welcomes the decision by the Deutsche Börse (German Stock Exchange) to include EADS in the new MDAX stock market index. The inclusion of EADS in this prestigious German index increases the company’s visibility in the financial markets. From 24 March onwards, EADS will probably be represented with the highest percentage share of any of the constituent companies in the MDAX.
EADS Chief Financial Officer Hans Peter Ring said: “We are pleased to be represented in the new MDAX. We expect the attractiveness and recognition of EADS in the German financial market to be further enhanced by this move, with particularly more retail investors becoming aware of an attractive investment opportunity. We also hope that analysts and fund managers will further increase coverage of EADS, for example with the prospect now of index-tracking funds investing in our stock.”
Until recently, EADS as a company not registered in Germany was excluded from any German stock exchange index. EADS is registered in the Netherlands, but has operating headquarters in Munich and Paris and most of its operations in Germany and France. In Germany, EADS has a workforce of about 39,000 employees. New rules, brought in by the Deutsche Börse, have cleared the path for EADS’ inclusion in the MDAX, now no longer limited to German companies.
Despite its high market capitalisation, EADS as the European number one aerospace company can not qualify for the DAX, which is still restricted to German stocks. However, due to its high market capitalisation, EADS has now gained the largest representation within the new MDAX, which is comprised of 50 stocks.
EADS is a global aerospace and defence company, and is the world’s second largest in terms of revenues, having achieved EUR 29.9 billion in 2002. EADS maintains a workforce of more than 100,000 and is a market leader in defence technologies, commercial aircraft, helicopters, space, military transport and combat aircraft, as well as related services. Its family of leading brands includes the commercial aircraft maker Airbus; Eurocopter, the world's largest helicopter manufacturer; Astrium, the space company and MBDA, the world's second largest missile company. EADS is also the biggest partner in the Eurofighter consortium and heads the A400M military transport aircraft programme. EADS has more than 70 facilities in France, Germany, Spain and the UK. It is active in markets around the world, including the U.S., Russia and Asia.
