New assembly halls for the A380 horizontal tailplane and belly fairing have been built at Getafe and Puerto Real in Spain. The fuselage's rear section where the horizontal and vertical tailplanes are joined, the rear fuselage tail cone which houses the auxiliary power unit are also designed, developed, manufactured and assembled at Getafe. These are the first fuselage sections made from carbon fibre for a commercial aircraft carrying more than 100 passengers. The world’s first true double-deck jetliner, the A380 has a maximum takeoff weight of 560 metric tonnes / 1,235,000 lb. and a range of 8,200nm / 15,200km. With versatile cabins on both main decks, the A380 offers more space to passengers of first, business, as well as economy class, along with wider seats and aisles, with an overall fuselage length of 73 metres / 239 ft., the typical seating configuration for the A380 includes 555 passengers in a three-class layout, with a range of more than 7400nm / 13700km.
