SCALP

The requirement for a naval cruise missile has led to the development of SCALP NAVAL based on the air-launched variant of the STORM SHADOW / SCALP, which already benefits from the established missile cruise and terminal attack phase. The missile Scalp Naval corresponds to the European Naval Strike Weapon. The naval cruise missile is an essential weapon system for future European surface ships, providing a deep strike capability. It has been designed to maximize its flexibility of engagement and formidable military effect. Its very long range enables SCALP NAVAL to cover an extensive area in the strike theatre. Highly maneuverable and at high speed, SCALP NAVAL penetrates adverse enemy defenses and locks onto the target. One of its key strengths is its metric accuracy, due to infrared terminal guidance. The compact nature of the SCALP NAVAL vertical launching system allows it to be incorporated in ships with other missions, such as ASW, therefore giving it a multi-mission capability. Apart from the launching phase, which is different for submarines and surface ships, the mission and performance are identical: the missile will be unique, proof of the ability to minimize development costs and logistics.
