The Getafe plant, located 20 kilometres south of Madrid, is where aviation started in Spain in the very early 20th century. The facility covers some 840,000 m2, including more than 270,000m2 of buildings, and is the largest aviation facility in the country. It hosts four divisions of the EADS group, Airbus, Airbus Military, Cassidian and Eurocopter.

With 5,500 workers, of which approximately 1,700 are Airbus Military employees, Getafe is one of the key sites for the military transport business. In these facilities, Airbus Military converts the Airbus A330 commercial aircraft into the new generation Multi Role Tanker Transport (A330 MRTT), and develops technology for all Airbus Military programmes: A400M, A330 MRTT and the light and medium family – C295, CN235, and C212.
