New Join the Spirit competition: “Find me if you can!” - A visual matching contest
What is it?
Over a 7 month period, students from all around the world are called upon to participate in this contest focused on human re identification in images. The final goal will be to propose the fastest and most effective algorithm through two distinct activities: photos making & human detection algorithm elaboration.
What can I win?
The 20 teams who will pass the first phase will receive a Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 - a quadrocopter with a built-in HD camera.
The champion team of the final phase will win a VIP invitation to Astrium space facilities in French Guiana at the occasion of an Ariane 5 launch! In addition, the first three teams will receive a “Parrot Zik”, the most advanced wireless headphones, designed by Philippe Starck.
How can apply?
The contest opens March 1, 2013 and finishes September 30, 2013 at midnight (GMT). The mid-course decision is to occur on May 12, 2013 and the contest remains for entries until this date.

Join the Spirit competition for Chinese students: contest to define new sustainable energy solutions
What is it?
Launched by EADS Innovation Works in cooperation with China’s clean energy company ENN, the competition challenges Chinese university students to envision new sustainable energy solutions for aviation and aerospace.
What can I win?
Five winning teams will be selected and awarded in five categories. The team that provides the most innovative and original idea will be awarded a 20,000RMB prize (around €2,500) plus one project collaboration opportunity with funding up to 400,000RMB.
How can apply?
The contest started on November 13th, 2012, and is open for submissions through March 30th, 2013 at midnight (BJT). The list of finalists will be published on May 1st, 2013 on the website. The winners will be announced in the final awards releasing ceremony held later in Spring in Airbus Final Assembly Line in Tianjin, China.

Airbus’ Fly Your Ideas competition
What is it?
Airbus’ Fly Your Ideas competition challenges students from around the globe to develop new concepts for a more efficient aviation industry. This biennial challenge, supported by UNESCO, features teams competing in multiple rounds of evaluation by company and aviation industry judges.
What can I win?
Five finalist teams are chosen to introduce their initiative to Airbus and industry experts during a live finale – with the top team winning €30,000, and €15,000 going to the runner-up.
How can apply?
Registration for the 2013 competition ended on 30 November 2012. The first selection of 100 teams was announced in January 2013 and the five finalists were made public on 13 May 2013. The final results will be announced at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 14 June 2013.

In 2009, a multinational team from the University of Queensland in Australia won with its project to apply a natural fibre composite made from castor plants in aircraft cabins. In 2011, a team from China’s Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics earned top honors for suggesting a ground-based wind power generation system derived from aircraft wakes.
