Competition about High-Performance Computing 2013

What is it?
A contest dedicated to high-performance computing, open to graduate students in engineering studies worldwide. They were challenged to create problem-solving codes, which were tested live. Working alone or in teams of up to three persons, competitors from universities around the world could submit their codes and compare their performance against others via an on-line leaderboard.

What can I win?
The winning team received a prize worth US$10,000.

Past winners
A team of 2 students from the Nanyang Technological University, in Singapore won the 2013 competition. They have solved the problems with a performance of 263 GFlops.
They contribute to the fastest solver in the world by proposing their implementation of a simplified solver designed to use multiple GPUs on a single computing node.
The Kota team will receive the prize during the award ceremony which will take place at Paris Airshow – Le Bourget 2013.

What is it?
A competition launched by EADS Innovation Works in Singapore and the Vietnamese Academy of Sciences’ (VAST) Space Technology Institute (STI) that asks students to develop new warning systems to alert fishermen when typhoons are approaching.


What can I win?
The winning team receives a prize worth US$4,000.

Past winners
Two students from the FPT University and Foreign Trade University won the 2011 competition proposing a communications-centric solution. Comprised of commercially available products, it addressed the constraint of limited financial means as well as ease of operation for the fishermen. Looking to the future, the team also incorporated the possible use of satellite technology, stretching the horizon for operations beyond the East Sea.
