Chief Technical Officer Jean Botti provided an outlook on the future of aerospace for students at Russian State Social University (RSSU) today, underscoring EADS’ commitment to expanding its research and development links with Russia’s institutes, schools and organizations.
“Russia´s history of scientific excellence makes this country an excellent partner for research and development,” he said during a presentation to some 300 students on the RSSU campus in Moscow. “I have made it a priority to further broaden our relationships as EADS works toward the vision of making aerospace an even more sustainable industry in the future.”
In highlighting EADS’ growing relationships with the country, Botti cited examples of ongoing efforts with Russian partners that range from the development of fast simulation tools for improving aircraft assembly to the evolution of predictive means for fuel system flow rates in various geometries and environments.
Botti’s Russian State Social University speech was part of his latest trip to Russia that included the signing of a cooperative agreement with the Russian Nanotechnology Corporation, which is expected to identify relevant patents from the EADS portfolio to help develop business opportunities for Russian industry.
His visit provided an opportunity to meet with the next generation of Russian decision-makers, as the RSSU is one of Russia’s largest universities, and operates as the only state social university for Russia, the Baltic states and CIS. It was founded after the Soviet Union’s dissolution, with an estimated enrolment of 100,000-plus students at 11 faculties.
While at the RSSU, Botti distributed copies of the Flight Book – an EADS publication that provides an educational and inspirational overview of the aerospace industry. Recognizing the important role that Russia has played in this sector, EADS updated the Flight Book to include some of the country’s contributions to aerospace, and translated the publication to Russian. The Flight Book was created by the EADS Corporate Foundation, of which Botti is president.
