The MRTT is a Multi-Role Tanker Transport aircraft based on the A330-200 Airbus platform. The A330 MRTT RAAF is the same as KC45 who provide from Northrop as an answer for the U.S. Air Force's modernization of its aerial refueling fleet. The A330-200 MRTT is the big twin aircraft of the Airbus fly-by-wire family. The huge basic fuel capacity of the standard A330-200 means that no additional tanks are needed to give air-to-air refueling performance that far exceeds its nearest competitors. The entire cargo bay is then available for all other types of transportation because it possesses full flexibility in cargo delivery, passenger transport, aeromedical evacuation, troop´s transportation and other missions. The A330 MRTT can be provided with a combination of wing pod and/or fuselage hose and drogue units and/or Airbus Military advanced refueling boom system (ARBS). A boom operator and mission planning station can be located in the cockpit and includes remote controls with an enhanced 2D/3D vision system. The A330 MRTT has a full capability of 111 tones with a speed range of 180-325 KIAS and a refueling envelope of a 0-35,000 ft. This photo shows the first A330-200 to be converted into Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA) for the RAF.
