EADS Defence & Security (DS) has received an order from the Berlin Transportation Company (BVG) to expand its existing TETRAPOL digital radio network. This has become necessary to cope with the increasing volume of radio communication and vehicle traffic using the digital trunked radio system. This system provides new voice and data communication capacity for the bus services and the dynamic passenger information system.
EADS Secure Networks, an integrated line of business of Defence and Communications Systems (DCS), will assume responsibility for planning, delivering, installing and commissioning the expansion of the radio network, which was originally brought into operation in 1996. In the future, this network will be able to serve up to 1,300 buses and 600 bus stops within the dynamic passenger information system. The order covers upgrading the system components and migrating the network to the most recent version, introducing the shortened data telegram to optimise the triggering of the light signals, the introduction of special data channels to boost the data capacity and expand the radio infrastructure. Load assessments calculated during a study form the basis for the expansion.
“This extension is a further proof that our TETRAPOL technology evolves alongside our customer’s needs. It can serve for various missions and will remain at the forefront of innovative PMR as long as our customers need it.” said Jean-Marc Nasr, president of EADS Secure Networks.
